Berk-Tek - Berk-Tek is gearing up for their 50th year celebration! Berk-Tek has a long history of manufacturing excellence. Opened in 1961 Berk-Tek immediately found a niche supplying the sonar bouy cables used to detect submarines to US defense contractors. In 1981, working with fluoropolymer manufacturers, Berk-Tek began its long history as an expert in the manufacture of plenum rated products. UTP cables were manufactured in 1984 and the fiber optic cable facility was opened in 1990. After many years of private ownership Berk-Tek was purchased by Alcatel giving the company an international presence. In 2001 Alcatel spun off the wire and cable portion of its business into Nexans.
